Do AI Glasses Need a Subscription? What’s Free—and What Costs Extra

No, an AI-glasses purchase does not automatically mean another monthly bill. But the answer changes when you ask about a specific feature. A manufacturer can sell the frames outright while offering higher AI limits, navigation or another service through a subscription.
For US shoppers comparing ownership costs, the useful question is: what will my everyday routine require after any introductory offer ends? Here is what the manufacturers’ public documentation establishes as of October 21, 2026.
Three subscription models to understand
| Product or service | What the manufacturer says | What to confirm before buying |
|---|---|---|
| Even G2 / Conversate | Currently advertised without subscriptions. | The features you need and their operating requirements. |
| Solos AirGo app | Free and Premium plans; a one-year Premium trial for registered purchasers. | Current renewal price, usage allowances and trial conditions. |
| Rokid Glasses with display | Full navigation access requires a subscription. | Navigation fee, coverage and any free allowance. |
These are different charging arrangements, rather than a ranking of overall value. Each row refers to the named product or service; it should not be applied to every device from that brand.
Even G2: no subscription does not mean no connection
Even’s Conversate page advertises G2 with “No subscriptions.” The same page says Conversate needs an internet connection through a paired phone and is unavailable when the phone is offline or disconnected.
That is a useful distinction for someone seeking meeting assistance without a recurring service fee. It is a statement of the current offering, not a guarantee of unlimited usage or permanently unchanged terms. Check the workflow you intend to use, rather than treating the absence of a subscription as a promise that every future service is included.
Solos: a Premium trial is different from the free plan
According to the Solos FAQ, registered users who purchase its smart glasses receive a one-year Premium trial. Premium raises usage limits compared with the Free plan. The FAQ identifies Premium as the highest launched tier and says Elite has not launched.
We are not listing a monthly renewal amount: Solos’ app page currently displays inconsistent Premium prices. Confirm the actual offer in your app or payment screen before committing. Ask which allowances apply to your model and account, when the trial starts, and what remains available if you choose the free tier afterward.
Rokid: check navigation separately
The navigation section of Rokid’s US-facing Glasses with display page states that full access requires a subscription. It does not specify a navigation fee, trial duration or free allowance there.
That condition concerns navigation; it does not establish that all AI or translation features require payment. If directions are your main reason for buying, get the applicable navigation terms before treating the hardware price as your complete cost. If you mainly want a different feature, check that feature’s terms directly.
Build your budget around a real week
Write down the tasks you expect the glasses to handle: short questions during a commute, long meetings, occasional travel or daily directions. Then ask the seller to map that routine to the current plan. A generous allowance for one activity may tell you little about another.
Separate the hardware purchase, necessary accessories and recurring services in your comparison. Include prescription lenses or a charging accessory only when your chosen setup needs them. Check any phone data or music-service costs against subscriptions you already have, so you do not count the same expense twice.
For a fair two-year comparison, add the full hardware setup to the service charges you actually expect during those 24 months. Apply an introductory period only if you qualify for it. Keep uncertain charges marked as unknown; a blank price field should never become zero in your budget.
Four questions worth asking before checkout
- Which of my intended features work without a paid plan?
- Are limits measured per question, minute, day or month, and when do they reset?
- What happens after a trial ends or I cancel: lower limits, lost access, or something else?
- Where can I see the current price, renewal terms and cancellation controls for my account?
If you are still deciding which type of glasses fits those tasks, start with our AI glasses versus display glasses guide. A subscription comparison is most useful after you know which features you would use enough to pay for.

FAQ
Do all AI glasses require a monthly subscription?
No. Current charging arrangements differ by product and feature. Even markets G2/Conversate without subscriptions, while other services use free tiers, trials or paid feature access.
Does a free Premium trial mean the service stays free?
No. A trial has a defined introductory period. Check the free-tier allowances, renewal price and cancellation conditions before relying on Premium features long term.
Does Rokid’s navigation subscription apply to every AI feature?
The cited Rokid page states that full navigation access requires a subscription. That wording does not establish a payment requirement for every AI or translation feature.
