1. Who controls your data

This notice explains how we process personal data on smartglassesinsights.com under European and German data-protection law.

2. Data processed when you visit

Our EU-based hosting provider, Hetzner Online GmbH, and our application systems process connection data such as IP address, requested URL, time, referrer, browser information and response status to deliver, maintain and protect the website. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in reliable and secure operation (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Logs are retained as needed to investigate faults or abuse and meet legal obligations, then deleted or anonymized.

We keep total article-view counts to understand which content is useful. A bounded server-memory cache uses a hashed IP address and article identifier to limit repeated counts; it does not set a browser cookie or send data to Google. Cache entries are removed during expiry and capacity cleanup or when the process restarts. This processing serves our legitimate interest in reliable article statistics (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

3. Finder and contact enquiries

The Finder sends your selected product preferences, device compatibility, budget and prescription-lens compatibility to our server to calculate the recommendations you request. Finder criteria are processed for the request and are not stored as a Finder history. Budget and prescription-lens choices are excluded from generated links and Google Analytics. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing the requested matching service (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

If you email us, we process your contact details and message to handle your enquiry, using our hosting and email service providers where needed. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR for contractual enquiries and otherwise our legitimate interest in answering messages under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. We delete correspondence when no longer needed, subject to statutory retention periods.

4. Cookies and consent choices

A necessary cookie remembers your acceptance or refusal, its time and the notice version for 180 days. Its legal basis is our legitimate interest in applying and documenting your choice (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR); necessary device storage is permitted under Section 25(2)(2) TDDDG. Optional Analytics stays off until you consent. Refusing does not limit the website.

You can change or withdraw optional consent at any time through Cookie settings in the footer. Withdrawal stops further Analytics measurement and removes accessible Analytics cookies. It does not affect the lawfulness of earlier processing.

5. Google Analytics

With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 from Google Ireland Limited to analyse website usage. It processes cookie identifiers, page views, selected interactions, browser and device information, referrer information and approximate location. Finder answers, message contents and complete shop links are not sent to Analytics. Advertising features are disabled. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(a) GDPR and Section 25(1) TDDDG.

The _ga and _ga_* cookies have a configured lifetime of 90 days without renewal on each page load. User- and event-level retention is two months without resetting on new activity; aggregated reports can remain longer. We also use Search Console's aggregated search-performance reports alongside Analytics.

Google may process data in the United States. Transfers to Google LLC rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework; standard contractual clauses apply where relevant. 6. Newsletter subscriptions

For newsletter subscriptions, we process your email address, confirmation status, timestamps and technical confirmation data through Brevo (Sendinblue SAS), based on your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. Unconfirmed registrations are scheduled for deletion after 24 hours; confirmed subscriptions are retained until withdrawal, subject to legal retention requirements. 7. Affiliate and external links

When you follow a manufacturer, retailer or affiliate link, the destination receives connection data and processes it under its own privacy notice. Affiliate identifiers, where included, allow the partner to attribute referrals and commissions. Displaying our catalog does not itself load third-party affiliate tracking scripts.

8. Your rights

Subject to the legal requirements, you have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction and data portability. You may withdraw consent and object to processing based on legitimate interests. You can lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, including the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision (BayLDA).

9. General information

We retain personal data only as needed for the purposes above, legal obligations or legal claims, and disclose it to authorities or other recipients where legally required. Providing newsletter or contact details is voluntary; without the necessary details we cannot provide the requested service. We do not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects solely by automated processing. We update this notice when relevant processing changes.
